Holidays = Illness

It is inevitable that each holiday season my family gets sick. It is especially true this year with an infant in the house. Olivia was sick for three weeks in November. My husband had a bout of the flu last week which he so thoughtfully passed to me. While I haven't actually gotten sick, I am achy and have no energy. Since my daughter was sick for so long, I missed several days of work. Now that I am sick, I do not have the time to stay home - too much to do.

As the end of the semester quickly approaches - 1 1/2 weeks - I have final exams to prepare, assignments to grade, gobs of late assignments to grade, and a debate to work on. I am really looking forward to the two week break from master's classes. Tonight is the first night in three days that I have been able to stay awake past 7:30. All of this is putting a damper on my holiday spirit. I think that some snow would make things feel a bit more festive. My icky attitude it sneaking into my classroom - not a good thing! Need some snow now!

  1. Amy,

    You can do it. The end (of the semester and our online class) is near and that will really allow you to have a great breather from both and relax. I always try and remind myself what I have to expect and that keeps me going!

    YOU CAN DO IT!!! :)

  2. Amy,

    I was going to tweet this but decided I'd send it directly to you because of your ELL course that you teach.

    Check out this sight called 'ESL Basics' http://www.eslbasics.com/resources.html that's supposed to have some great ESL resources!

    Hope you find this helpful.

  3. Amy,
    I feel your pain. I have my 13 year old home for two days this week and now my 10 year old is already in bed (before 7pm) with the same symptoms. I agree, snow may help!

  4. I am so sorry you are sick! I don't have any holiday decoration up! I usually do this at Thanksgiving but it just didn't happen I will be the week of Christmas before my tree will up. I have absolutely NO holiday spirit! I did go Black Friday shopping but that is the only shopping I have done! I will be glad when there is less stress. Oh yeah grade cards are also due:( I just keep telling myself we are so close! We can do this! We are strong, multi-tasking amazing people!

  6. It certainly has not been stress-free for any of us! Besides teaching and grades due the same time as the final, I also teach 3 nights a week and had a dance recital to run this weekend. I don't have any children so I can't imagine how I would do it if I did! Just think in one week you will be done, you can enjoy the holidays with your family and snow will have probably arrived by then. :)
